Escape to Las Animas Beach: The Perfect Yacht Charter Destination for Relaxation and Adventure

Updated: Jun 29

Tucked away along Jalisco's emerald coastline, south of Puerto Vallarta, Las Ánimas Beach is a gem that perfectly balances laid-back vibes with a splash of fun. Only accessible by yacht or a jungle hike, this beach is an unbeatable destination for those looking to unwind, indulge, and maybe try something a little adventurous—without bumping elbows with big crowds.

When departing from Marina Puerto Vallarta, a round-trip yacht charter to Las Ánimas takes at least six hours. If you're cruising on a slower vessel like a sailboat or our two-level catamaran 2TS, we recommend eight hours to truly enjoy the journey. At Boat and Bay, we make sure you're not watching the clock—you're soaking in the beauty.

Why Las Animas Beach is Perfect for Yacht Charters

Imagine stepping onto golden sand, surrounded by swaying palms and the dramatic Sierra Madre mountains, all while your private yacht sways just offshore. Las Ánimas remains a well-kept secret, thanks to its boat-only access, which keeps the crowds at bay (literally).

Fun Fact: The name "Las Ánimas" translates to "The Souls." According to local lore, seafaring spirits keep a watchful eye on beachgoers. No confirmed ghost sightings yet—but you never know.

From your yacht, you'll have front-row views of this tropical paradise. And between December and March? Humpback whales often make cameo appearances along your route.

Dining, Drinks & Beach Bliss

Las Ánimas is the perfect lunch stop on your yacht day. The beach is lined with charming restaurants, oceanfront seating, and plenty of cocktails to keep things festive. Our favorite? Abelardo’s. It's known for its freshly grilled seafood, welcoming service, and prime beachfront tables.

Want to keep the yacht vibes going? Ask us about our Yacht Takeout service. You can pre-order dishes from the restaurant, and they'll be delivered via panga (small boat) straight to your yacht's deck. Think: warm fish tacos + ocean breeze = perfect lunch.

Just steps away from the restaurants, you’ll also find a small beachside pharmacy and a massage stand — perfect if you need a little extra sunscreen, or want to treat yourself to a relaxing beachside massage after lunch. Because why not come back from your boat trip even more relaxed than you already were?

Activities for everyone

Las Ánimas is one of the most activity-rich beaches in Bahía de Banderas. In addition to swimming and snorkeling in calm, swimmable waters, you can also:

  • Rent jet skis for some high-speed fun

  • Hop on a banana boat and bounce your way along the coast

  • Try skydiving (yes, really!) with epic views

  • Take a horseback ride along the shore

This is an especially great spot for families and mixed-age groups—there's something for every mood and energy level.

A Birthday Bash with a View

Another wonderful thing about Las Ánimas? It’s become a go-to spot for birthday groups! We’ve helped organize countless birthday celebrations here — and it’s truly something special. Here's how it works: you start your day on a private yacht, stop by Los Arcos for snorkeling and amazing photos, and then head to Las Ánimas where we reserve the entire second floor of a beach restaurant just for your group. Add in live music, maybe a local band or dancers, delicious food, a birthday cake, and panoramic views of the ocean… it’s a celebration your guests will never forget. After lunch, you can enjoy the beach or head back to your yacht — and if you time it right, catch the sunset or even fireworks on the way back. Now that’s how you throw a birthday!

How to Get to Shore (and Where to Go)

Your yacht will anchor just offshore, and from there, you'll need a transfer to the beach. There are a few options:

  • Yacht tender/dinghy: Some of our yachts (like 2PE) come with their own small boat, ideal for kids, elderly guests, and group drop-offs. The crew handles everything, including helping you on and off.

  • Local panga (water taxi): These small boats pick you up from your yacht and drop you right at the restaurant or beach of your choice. They work for tips (usually $300–500 MXN round trip). Easy, quick, and safe.

There’s also a wooden dock in the center of Las Ánimas. Only pangas can use it—not yachts—but it’s perfect if you prefer to avoid getting your toes wet. This dock divides the beach into two zones:

  • The lively side: Home to most of the restaurants, umbrellas, and water taxis. Expect music, energy, and a great seafood smell.

  • The quiet side: Fewer restaurants, more open beach, and better spots for jet skiing, swimming, and skydiving. You’ll also spot horses and even a picturesque wooden swing (“Columpio”) that's perfect for Instagram.

We highly recommend walking the beach around sunset. After 5–6 PM, the public water taxis leave and the beach quiets down—making it the perfect time for one last cocktail or barefoot stroll.

Timing Tips & Sunset Returns

The ride from Puerto Vallarta to Las Ánimas takes around 1.5 to 2 hours one way, so if you're booking a six-hour tour, expect about two hours at the beach itself. That’s enough for a good lunch and a splash, but if you want to settle in, book 7 to 8 hours.

Want to spend more time on board instead of heading ashore? No problem! Let us coordinate your Yacht Takeout order from your chosen restaurant. Orders over $5,000 MXN even get free delivery. That way, you can sip and savor on deck while enjoying water toys like paddleboards and the lily pad.

Final Thoughts: Why We Love Las Ánimas

Las Ánimas Beach is lively without being overcrowded, full of flavor an fun. It offers the best of both worlds: beachfront energy and open-sea serenity. It’s also one of the few beaches only accessible by yacht, which makes your trip feel that much more special.

And if you're lucky enough to visit during the right season, you might cap your day with a pod of whales breaching in the golden light of sunset. Add in the option for a private fireworks display on the way home, and you have the recipe for an unforgettable day.

Ready to set sail? Let Boat and Bay handle the details. You just show up, relax, and soak it all in.
