Planning a yacht charter in Puerto Vallarta but wondering whether it's a good idea to bring the little ones along? You’re not alone. Many parents ask us:
"Can I bring my child on a yacht? Is it even safe? Will they get bored? What if they get seasick? What if they fall overboard?!"
First of all: take a deep breath. We’re here to tell you that YES, you can absolutely charter a yacht with kids. In fact, we encourage it! A yacht charter can be a magical, enriching, and memory-making experience for the whole family — toddlers to teens included.
Let’s walk you through the most important things to know when bringing kids aboard. We’ll cover safety, fun, what to pack, what to expect when chartering a yacht with kids in Puerto Vallarta, and which yachts work best.

First Things First: Is There a Minimum Age for Children on a Private Yacht Charter?
Nope! There is no minimum age to bring your child on a private yacht charter. Babies, toddlers, and tweens are all welcome. That said, we do ask for your child’s name, age, and gender when booking so we can prepare age-appropriate kid's lunch boxes and activities. We love personalizing your trip—right down to the baby carrots!
Also, children count as a full guest for insurance purposes, so if a yacht has a max capacity of 12 guests, that includes kiddos.

What Do Kids Do on a Yacht?
You might be surprised by how much kids love being out at sea. Some of the favorite on-board activities for little sailors include:
Fishing! Our friendly crew loves teaching kids how to cast a line.
Snorkeling & swimming (with child-sized life vests, of course).
Riding the waves while holding onto the rails like little pirates.
Drawing, reading, or coloring with their very own activity box.
Lounging in the sun or napping inside on comfy beds and pillows.
For the more adventurous families, older kids and teens can even ride as passengers on jet skis. (With waivers signed and adults present, of course. Safety first!)

Safety First: What About Kids and the Sea?
It’s natural for parents to be a little nervous — especially first-timers. We’ve got you covered:
We provide child-sized life jackets, but you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Optional lifeguard onboard for extra peace of mind.
Nanny service available to help watch or entertain the kids.
Cribs and maternity pillows available for nap time (because baby naps are sacred).
High railings, non-slip flooring, and yacht layouts that support safe movement.
Yes, kids can get seasick, just like adults. But our crew is experienced with this and we always recommend bringing child-friendly motion sickness remedies just in case (ginger candy, seabands, or over-the-counter medications approved by your pediatrician).
Which Yachts Are Best for Kids?
When it comes to family-friendliness, the more space and stability, the better. Here are our top picks:

TRAC stabilizers for ultra-smooth sailing
Anti-slip floors
High railings (great for whale watching and sea gazing)
Spacious interior and two sundecks for fun and safe exploration
Large salon/living area
Multiple bedrooms
Big, protected sundeck perfect for toddlers and kids to roam safely
Flybridge connected to a sundeck by a small central staircase
Safe and structured layout that allows kids to move easily
Great lookout spots next to the captain!

Extremely stable on the water (less rocking!)
Wide decks for safe running and playing
Great for bigger families or mixed-age groups
❌ Yachts Less Ideal for Kids:
Sailboats: too much movement, limited space, and low railings
Yachts with narrow side passages to sundecks (not safe for young kids)
Any layout that’s too open or doesn’t allow safe, supervised mobility
Why You Should Bring Your Kids on a Yacht
Let’s face it: kids are curious, energetic, and wide-eyed with wonder. A private yacht trip opens up their senses to nature, adventure, and family bonding time. Studies have shown that kids remember experiences more than toys — and nothing says "unforgettable" like spotting dolphins in the wild or catching their first fish.
Plus, Mexico is extremely kid-friendly. Our crew members adore children, and we go the extra mile to make sure your whole family feels welcomed, cared for, and safe.
And really... why should parents have all the fun? :)
